🚨Did you know you should be charging separately for usage rights when working with brands?
Here’s a quick breakdown for you:
What are usage rights?
This section in your contract outlines who owns the deliverables (aka the content) and what they’re allowed to do with them, like post to their socials, run ads, publish in a magazine, etc.
There are usually 3 types of usage rights: Organic, Paid, and Full
Organic and Paid are the most common in collaborations.
Organic Usage = The brand can post your content on their own organic socials
HOW TO CHARGE:
✅ Include 1–3 months in your base rate (I usually include 30 days)
✅ Add +10% of your base rate for each extra month
Paid Usage = The brand puts ad spend behind your content (aka runs paid ads using it)
HOW TO CHARGE:
💸 +20% per month for standard ads
💸 +30% per month for whitelisting or blacklisting
There’s no official industry standard for rates yet — but this is a solid starting point if you’re not sure where to begin.
