This Etsy Mistake is Killing Most New Shops

🚫 Stop trying to “out-unique” Etsy.

1) Start with demand, not vibes.
The ideas that feel special often end up being slow movers. If you want steady orders, build around proven repeat-buy categories: tees, sweatshirts, totes, mugs, phone cases.

2) Don’t design first—investigate first.
Before you open Canva, open Etsy search. Look at what’s showing up, what’s consistent, and what keeps repeating across bestsellers. Designing without that = donating your time.

3) Your product isn’t the marketing—your listing is.
People buy with their eyes. Your photos need to do the selling: clean mockups, quick size/color clarity, benefits, and a little proof so buyers feel safe clicking “Add to cart.”
If you want an easier way to see what’s worth doubling down on (and what’s just eating your time), I keep everything organized in ProfitTree—profit tracking + simple competitor research in one place.
